staying at home these days, i have a lot of time on my hands. i've gotten tired of watching Filipino TV shows and dramas so i started watching a couple of american TV series online. here are my favorites so far.
downton abbey - who knew there would be a lot of drama in such a genteel environment? i love this show because i just learn about a different culture in a different period of history. the issues the characters face are not that different from what we encounter these days, ie. women's independence, keeping up with the modern technology, class and family issues. the costumes are so pretty too. i love maggie smith's character as the smart-mouthed and funny grandma.
this clip is funny, the duke and dowager duchess can't grasp the idea of a job and a weekend.
the newsroom - so i don't really understand american politics, but this gives us a good view from the sidelines. it took me a while to keep up with the plot and the things being discussed, but once i got the hang of it, i felt more aware of current affairs. this is a show that's smartly written. jeff daniels is the perfect anchorman. hard to believe how far he is from the "dumb and dumber" character (please don't do part 2 anymore).
scandal - who doesn't love a scandal? olivia pope (played by kerry washington), is smart, sexy and a master at spinning political issues. and of course, there's that on-going love affair with the president. i can't wait for the new season.
breaking bad - i've only watched a couple of episodes from the first season. it starts out slow, and some poeple will actually be turned off by the pace. but the premise is good: a chemistry teacher diagnosed with cancer goes into the drug trade, partnering with his former student. how will his family react when they find out? i remember bryan cranston as the funny dad in "malcolm in the middle", but his role here is so far from that one, it's really amazing how this particular character is played out.
what about you, what shows have you been watching lately? anything good you can recommend, please share in the comments section!
